Pune Becomes First City to Launch ‘Trafficure’ with Google for Real-Time Traffic Management

In a significant technological advancement to address Pune’s escalating traffic congestion, the Pune City Traffic Police has introduced a new traffic management software called Trafficure. This innovative system is the result of a collaboration between the Pune City Traffic Department, Google India, and Lepton India. With this launch, Pune becomes the first city in India to implement an online traffic management system in partnership with Google India. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that the state government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India last year, leading to the development of the Trafficure app.
The application leverages Google Maps to monitor real-time traffic congestion, slow-moving vehicles, and road issues citywide, providing instant updates to the police.Trafficure offers live information on traffic jams and slowdowns at major intersections and internal roads. A standout feature is its independent alert system that immediately notifies traffic personnel when congestion begins to build, allowing officers to rapidly respond and clear bottlenecks before conditions deteriorate further.
The system also tracks average vehicle speeds and identifies specific causes of disruptions.Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil explained that Pune has been divided into 550 zones based on road networks and traffic flow patterns. Since using the app over the past two months, the average vehicular speed has increased from 20 kmph to 26.8 kmph.
