260 Nagpur Roads Damaged Again; Repairs Estimated at ₹14.46 Crore

Heavy rains have once again revealed the deteriorating state of Nagpur’s roads, with 260 city roads suffering damage. According to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), around 130 roads have been severely affected by waterlogging, while an additional 135 roads have developed cracks and potholes. Nearly half of the city’s roads are now in critical condition, causing inconvenience and safety concerns for commuters. The municipal authorities have estimated that repairing and resurfacing these roads will cost approximately ₹14.46 crore.
Priority repair zones include Laxminagar, Dhantoli, and Mangalwari, where the damage is most extensive. Officials attribute the road deterioration to persistent rainfall, inadequate drainage systems, and previously poor-quality construction work. With the monsoon season still ongoing, the civic body has acknowledged that temporary fixes will be necessary before a full resurfacing plan can be implemented. These short-term measures aim to reduce immediate hazards such as accidents and traffic disruptions. However, experts warn that without addressing underlying drainage issues and enforcing higher construction standards, the roads are likely to degrade again quickly.
Meanwhile, residents have voiced frustration over the recurring damage despite repeated investments. Many have called for greater transparency in contractor selection and supervision to ensure accountability. Civic activists also urge the NMC to adopt modern, durable materials and invest in better infrastructure planning to prevent future damage. As Nagpur continues to grow, sustainable road maintenance will be critical to ensuring safe and smooth travel for its citizens. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us.
