Tehsil Police Seize ₹1.08 Lakh Worth of Nylon Manja in Nagpur, Arrest 19-Year-Old

In a significant operation, the Tehsil Police Station has launched a crackdown on the illegal sale of banned nylon manjha in Nagpur. Acting on a tip-off from a confidential informant, police officers conducted a raid in the Takiya Diwanshah area, near Salim Hotel, at approximately 6:30 PM on January 11, 2025.
During routine patrols, police were alerted to the presence of nylon manjha in the back alley of the hotel. The suspect, identified as Mohammad Sameer Ansari, a 19-year-old resident of Takiya Diwanshah, was apprehended with two plastic bags containing 62 spools of the prohibited kite string. The confiscated goods bore labels from various brands including Mono KiteMono Gold, and Mono Shakti, with an estimated value of around ₹1,08,000.
Following the seizure, authorities filed a case against Ansari under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. These laws prohibit the sale and distribution of hazardous materials, such as nylon manjha, which pose serious risks to public safety and the environment.In light of this operation, authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against the use of banned kite strings.
The use of nylon manjha is known to cause serious injuries to both humans and animals, and it poses environmental hazards due to its non-biodegradable nature. The police are committed to ensuring community safety and will continue to monitor and enforce regulations against the illegal sale of such dangerous materials.
