Schools in Pune City and District Closed on July 26 Due to Heavy Rainfall

Pune district and Pune city have been experiencing relentless heavy rain over the past two days. The downpour has resulted in significant rainfall in Mulshi, Maval, Khed, Velhe, and Bhor talukas of Pune district, leading to the release of a substantial amount of water from Khadakwasla and Pavana dams. Consequently, the Mula and Mutha rivers in Pune city have swelled, causing flooding in various low-lying areas, slums, and societies.
The heavy rains and subsequent floods have also severely affected the traffic flow in the city, making it slow and hazardous. In response to these challenging circumstances, the Ministry of Higher & Technical Education, Maharashtra, has declared a holiday for schools in Pune city and district on July 26, 2024 (Friday).According to additional information from the Ministry, they had previously announced the closure of schools in Pune city and district on July 25, 2024, due to the heavy rains and floods. However, due to a lack of timely communication between the school management, parents, and students, many individuals were greatly inconvenienced by the sudden news.
The heavy rainfall continues unabated in Pune city and Pune district today, with the possibility of further water release from the dams. As a result, the rivers and canals in the city are experiencing flooding. Given the likelihood of the flood situation escalating, an order has been issued today for all schools in Pune city and the talukas of Pune district to remain closed on July 26, 2024. This decision aims to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and educational staff in the face of challenging weather conditions.
