NMC Sets Up 419 Artificial Tanks for Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol Immersion

As the Ganesh festival approaches, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is gearing up for the immersion of Ganesh idols, which will begin on September 7. The city has implemented several facilities to ensure a smooth and eco-friendly celebration.

Preparation for Eco-Friendly Immersion

Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary and Additional Commissioner Mrs. Aanchal Goyal, the NMC has established 419 artificial immersion pits throughout the city. These initiatives are part of the NMC’s commitment to maintaining clean water sources and effectively managing the immersion process.To promote an environmentally friendly Ganesh festival, the NMC has set up artificial tanks for the immersion of household Ganesh idols in various wards. Key locations include Kacchi Visa Oswal BhavanGandhi Sagar Lake, and Sonegaon Lake, where large immersion tanks have been constructed. For public Ganesh mandals, immersion facilities are available in Koradi.

Encouragement for Clay Idols

Dr. Chaudhary has urged citizens to opt for clay idols and utilize the artificial tanks for immersion to support environmental conservation. Notably, this year, the High Court has mandated that public Ganesh mandals use only clay idols, prohibiting the use of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols.

Waste Management Arrangements

The city’s waste management department has organized a total of 419 immersion tanks for the convenience of devotees. This includes 331 temporary tanks31 rubber tanks32 pits3 concrete tanks, and 22 mobile tanks. Additionally, for immersions lasting one to one and a half days, 30 artificial tanks have been set up across seven zones, including Lakshmi Nagar, Dharampeth, Hanuman Nagar, and Mangalwari.For three-day Ganesh idols, immersion tanks will be available at 3 locations in Lakshmi Nagar, 16 in Dharampeth, 8 in Hanuman Nagar, 1 in Dhantoli, 1 in Mangalwari, and 2 each in Nehru Nagar and Sataranjipura. For five-day idols, 64 tanks will be provided, and on the seventh day, 92 tanks will be ready. On Anant Chaturdashi, the tenth day of the festival, all 419 tanks will be prepared for immersion.

Focus on Cleanliness and Respectful Disposal

Dr. Chaudhary has highlighted the importance of respectfully disposing of idols and managing the water used in the artificial tanks. He has also instructed that arrangements be made for collecting flowers and maintaining cleanliness at the immersion sites.
