The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, achieved a decisive victory in Pune’s local body elections, winning all 17 president posts across municipal councils and nagar panchayats.Official results show the NCP emerged as the largest NDA contributor, securing 10 president positions, followed by Shinde’s Shiv Sena with four, and the BJP with three.Ajit Pawar expressed his satisfaction on X, stating,
“The results of the recently concluded Municipal Council and Municipal Panchayat General Elections 2025 clearly reflect the people of Maharashtra’s strong support for the ideology of Shiv-Shahu-Phule-Ambedkar upheld by the Nationalist Congress Party, and their endorsement of the development-oriented governance of the Mahayuti. This mandate is a resounding victory for democracy.”Across the state, the Mahayuti alliance swept elections in 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, winning 207 president posts, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) secured a combined total of 44.
Breaking down the tally further, the Devendra Fadnavis-led BJP won 117 municipal president posts, Shiv Sena claimed 53, and the NCP took 37. The Congress secured 28 seats, Sharad Pawar’s faction of the NCP won seven, and Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray’s Shiv Sena garnered nine.Additionally, state-registered parties won four seats, unrecognised registered parties took 28, and Independents captured five president posts.
