In a significant operation at Nagpur Railway Station, gold worth ₹61 lakh was seized by central agencies, leading to the detention of an individual carrying 787.86 grams of gold on the Sanghamitra Express (Train No. 12296). The operation was sparked by a specific tip-off received by Senior Officer V.L. Narasimha from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), prompting a collaborative effort between the DRI, the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) of the Railway Protection Force, and Central Railway.
A specialized joint team was formed to track the train’s journey, boarding it to conduct thorough inspections. Upon investigation, they identified a passenger who was found to be in possession of smuggled gold biscuits valued at ₹61,45,308. This meticulous operation involved CIB personnel, alongside Assistant Sub-Inspectors Rajkumar Bharti and Mukesh Rathore, and team members Ajay Singh, Jasveer Singh, Harvinder Singh, and Shyam Jhadaukar, all geared up for a comprehensive inquiry.The operation, dubbed “Operation Satark,” saw the establishment of three joint teams under the leadership of DRI Nagpur’s Deputy Director Gaurav Meshram and Senior Officer V.L. Narasimha.
As the Sanghamitra Express pulled into Platform No. 2, the team launched a coordinated search. In Coach No. A-1, Seat No. 35, they located a passenger matching the description provided in the tip-off, who was later identified as hailing from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.Upon further examination, 787.86 grams of gold biscuits concealed in the passenger’s bag were confiscated. This successful operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), CIB Nagpur, and DRI Nagpur marks a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to combat gold smuggling in the country, enhancing national security and integrity.
