Vande Bharat Express Derails at Pune Station’s Diamond Crossing; No Injuries Reported

A coach of the CSMT-Solapur Vande Bharat Express derailed while entering Pune Railway Station at 7:30 PM on Monday, April 27, 2026. This is a rare event, marking the first time a Vande Bharat train has derailed since the service began in 2019. One part of the fourth coach slipped off the tracks at a specific section known as a Diamond Crossing, but thankfully, no passengers were injured.

The accident happened at a low speed, which helped keep everyone safe. Although the sudden jolt caused some brief panic, railway authorities acted quickly to help passengers. Travelers from the affected coach were guided to the platform with their luggage, and the Central Railway arranged for a different train to take everyone the rest of the way to Solapur.<

A Diamond Crossing is a place where two sets of tracks cross each other in a diamond shape, allowing trains to pass through without changing lines. Railway officials explained that this particular crossing was already scheduled to be upgraded as part of a larger project to remodel the station’s tracks. Because of this incident, replacing the crossing has now become a top priority for the engineering teams.

The derailment has caused major delays for several other express trains traveling through Pune. Technical teams are currently working on-site to fix the track and move the stalled coach. While the train is equipped with advanced safety technology, senior officials are investigating exactly why the track gave way to ensure it doesn’t happen again at major junctions.
