Unseasonal Showers Bring Relief to Nagpurians; Daytime Temperatures Drop Across Vidarbha

Nagpur residents woke up to a pleasant surprise on Saturday as unexpected unseasonal showers swept through the city, providing much-needed relief from the recent warm and humid spell. Light rain began around 8:30 a.m. and continued until 11 a.m., cooling the morning air and offering a welcome break.Though winter chill still hasn’t arrived in Nagpur as October nears its close, meteorologists warn that this sudden rainfall may increase humidity levels in the coming days.
Yet, many locals embraced the drizzle as a hopeful sign of the approaching cooler season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Nagpur received 15.6 mm of rain within just two and a half hours. Similar light showers were recorded across Vidarbha, including Akola (18 mm), Amravati (12 mm), Brahmapuri (14 mm), Buldhana (8 mm), Wardha (7 mm), Gadchiroli (6 mm), Bhandara (1 mm), and Yavatmal (1 mm).The IMD attributed the rainfall to a low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, which intensified into a depression on Saturday and further deepened by Sunday.
This system is expected to develop into a cyclonic storm, likely to be named ‘Cyclone Mothha’—a name proposed by Thailand for tropical cyclones in the North Indian Ocean. With this system influencing the region, more rainfall is forecast for Central India, including Vidarbha, over the next three days. The sudden weather shift also triggered a notable drop in daytime temperatures across the area.I
n Nagpur, the maximum temperature plunged by 7.2°C within 24 hours, falling from above 34°C on Friday. Other areas such as Bhandara, Brahmapuri, and Chandrapur also experienced temperature dips, while Amravati, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, and Wardha saw declines of at least 2°C. Over the last 36 hours, Bhandara recorded the highest rainfall at 50 mm, followed by Akola with 28.7 mm. Stay tuned for more only with us.
