Symbiosis International (Deemed) University from Pune has achieved the highest ranking among Pune-based universities in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, released on November 4. Symbiosis secured the 200th position, marking its best-ever placement in these rankings. This achievement surpasses other notable Pune institutions, including Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), which ranked 207th, showing a decline from its 173rd position in the 2025 rankings.Symbiosis earned an overall score of 52.2, excelling in several key areas.
It scored 57.3 in the “Staff with PhD” category and 47.6 in the “Faculty Student Ratio” metric. The university’s academic reputation was rated at 36.3, with scores of 12.2 in “Papers per Faculty” and 8.9 in “Citations per Paper.” Notably, Symbiosis hosts a diverse student body, with 89% domestic students and 11% international students—a significantly higher international representation compared to other Pune universities. Pune University recorded an overall score of 50.6. It excelled in the “Staff with PhD” parameter with a high score of 87.2 and achieved 64.2 in “Faculty Student Ratio.” SPPU’s ranking journey has fluctuated in recent years, from 210 in 2024 to 173 in 2025, and now settling close to previous levels at 207. The university’s student population is predominantly domestic, with 98% local and just 2% international students.Other Pune universities featured in the rankings include Dr. D Y Patil Vidyapeeth, Pimpri, Pune (Deemed University), ranked 569th, and Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed University), placed in the 1001-1100 range, a drop from their 851-900 range in 2025.
