Skip Free Parking, Pay the Price: Jamtha Fans Shell Out ₹500 for Cars, ₹100 for Bikes

India’s thrilling T20 victory over New Zealand at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha on January 21 brought immense joy to thousands of cricket fans from Nagpur and nearby areas. However, the celebrations took a sour turn for many motorists who ignored traffic and parking rules, ending up paying a steep price in fines and lost time.Despite clear advisories from the Nagpur Traffic Police and prominent banners along Wardha Road and surrounding areas, numerous spectators parked their vehicles improperly near the stadium.

Local authorities imposed parking fees of ₹500 for cars and ₹100 for two-wheelers caught violating the rules.Anticipating heavy traffic for the high-profile match, the Traffic Police had rolled out a detailed traffic and parking management plan. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Lohit Matani explained that routes and parking zones were clearly marked well in advance to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Separate parking allocations were made for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, VIPs, VCA members, school buses, police, and media personnel.Under the plan, vehicles coming from Nagpur to Jamtha were directed via Wardha Road, with a left turn at the National Cancer Institute leading to designated parking at Mauli Nagar. Entry at the Jamtha T-point was restricted to players and VIPs only.

Additional parking and feeder bus services were provided at Brahmakumari for vehicles arriving from Wardha and Butibori.Despite these measures, many fans disregarded the guidelines, causing traffic jams and enforcement actions. While those who complied enjoyed a smooth journey and the thrill of India’s win, violators faced fines, delays, and hassle learning a costly lesson on the importance of following traffic discipline during major sporting events.
