The redevelopment projects of Nagpur and Ajni railway stations—two key hubs in Central Railway’s Nagpur Division—are advancing rapidly, signaling a significant transformation of the region’s rail infrastructure. Once completed, the modernized stations will enhance passenger comfort, improve mobility, and reinforce Nagpur’s status as a crucial railway junction with better connectivity and operational efficiency. At Ajni station, substantial upgrades are underway. The east-side building is nearing completion, with both internal and external finishing in advanced stages, marking a major milestone toward a modern, well-organized terminal.
Supporting infrastructure is also progressing, including two fully completed Type-IV residential towers (stilt-plus-seven-storey blocks) aimed at improving staff accommodation and backend operations.Platform enhancements are similarly progressing. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aman Mittal reports that all COP columns on the Mumbai side of platforms 4 and 5 have been erected, improving passenger safety and shelter. Efforts to boost connectivity continue with the completion of column encasing for the north and south foot overbridges (FOBs), facilitating smoother cross-platform movement. Construction on the concourse structure is also steadily moving forward with ongoing column encasing.
Meanwhile, Nagpur station is seeing swift redevelopment on both east and west sides. The east side features a newly cast terrace slab for the arrival building and ongoing façade work on the departure building, giving the station a fresh, contemporary look. The unified basement slab has been cast, and finishing work has commenced. The south FOB has been successfully modified to ease passenger flow.
On the west side, the basement slab for the west-wing structure is complete, and nearly half of the surrounding road development has been finished. The west-side administrative building is also progressing, with internal and external finishes underway. To further boost station mobility, a 54-metre ramp has been constructed for the north FOB at platforms 6 and 7. Additionally, foundations for a 108-metre elevated concourse—equipped with lifts, escalators, and staircases—have been completed on platforms 4 & 5 and 6 & 7, promising enhanced commuter convenience once operational.
