The prestigious Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) captivated audiences in Pune on Friday, following the convocation ceremony of the 147th course at the National Defence Academy (NDA). This weekend, they are set to dazzle the skies once again with a spectacular display at Air Force Station Lohegaon on Saturday afternoon.Established in 1996, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team is one of the elite nine-aircraft aerobatic teams globally and the only one in Asia.
With over 600 performances under their belt, they have showcased their skills not only across India but also at international air shows in countries like China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and the UAE.Flying nine Hawk Mk132 aircraft, which are manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the team aims to instill confidence in the public regarding the capabilities of the IAF through their breathtaking aerobatic displays. The pilots, selected biannually from the fighter stream of the IAF, undergo rigorous training to master complex maneuvers.
On Friday, they performed an impressive show over the NDA, celebrating the graduation of the cadets.The upcoming airshow, led by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, an alumnus of the NDA, is scheduled for around 1 PM on Saturday. Pune residents can expect to witness thrilling aerobatic maneuvers, including loops, rolls, and inverted flying, performed by the Hawk Mk132 aircraft.With the excitement building, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team continues to be a source of pride for the Indian Air Force, showcasing their skill and dedication to aerial excellence.
