Punjab National Bank (PNB) is facing a special civil suit in Pimpri, Pune, following allegations that it has illegally occupied a commercial property in Akurdi after its lease expired in March 2024. Property owners Amit Nandkishor Agarwal and Gitesh Nandkishor Agarwal have approached the court seeking immediate eviction, mesne profits, and ₹2 crore in damages, claiming the bank’s refusal to vacate has halted a major redevelopment project.
Civil Judge Senior Division (Pimpri), P. S. Kulkarni, issued formal summons and notices to PNB on July 17, 2026, directing the bank to file its written statement.
Key Details of the Dispute
Lease Background: The premises (Plot No. 397, Sector 24, Akurdi) were originally leased to Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) in July 2015 for a nine-year term running from April 1, 2015, to March 31, 2024. PNB assumed the lease after merging with OBC in 2020.
Redevelopment Plans: Representing the plaintiffs, Advocate Harshad Nanaware stated that the bank was informed well in advance that the lease would not be renewed due to planned property redevelopment.
The Allegation: Despite multiple notices and discussions, PNB allegedly failed to surrender possession upon the lease’s expiration, rendering its ongoing occupation unauthorized.
Relief Sought & Next Steps
The plaintiffs claim that PNB’s continued presence has caused severe financial losses by stalling their redevelopment plans. The suit asks the court to:
Declare the lease legally terminated by efflux of time.
Direct PNB to immediately vacate and hand over peaceful possession.
Award ₹2 crore in damages alongside rental differentials and mesne profits for unauthorized occupation.
Current Status: The court has ordered summons to be served via Registered Post Acknowledgement Due (RPAD). As the matter remains pending before the Civil Judge Senior Division in Pimpri, PNB has yet to file its official written statement or formal defense.
