PMC Urged to Postpone Deputy Engineer Recruitment Exam

Election officers from multiple municipal councils have appealed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to defer the recruitment exam for deputy and junior engineers, scheduled for December 1. The PMC is conducting this exam to fill 169 vacancies.A significant number of applicants are staff members from smaller municipal councils.
However, with polling for municipal councils and nagar panchayats set for December 2, election officials say they cannot grant leave to employees the day before election duty.Anil Pure, election officer of Varangaon Municipal Council, has formally requested the municipal commissioner to postpone the exam. In his letter, he wrote, “Some of our staff have applied for the PMC deputy engineer post, but we cannot spare them on the day before polling. We request that the examination be postponed.”
Adding to the concerns, Dharashiv MP Omraje Nimbalkar of Shiv Sena (UBT) highlighted that many candidates have been assigned exam centres far from their preferred locations—sometimes hundreds of kilometres away. With voting duties scheduled for the following day, attending the exam would be unfeasible for these candidates.
Nimbalkar stated, “This amounts to an injustice to eligible candidates. If the situation continues, many will miss the exam entirely. I request the civic chief to reconsider the exam centre allocations.”As of now, the PMC has not issued an official response to these requests. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us.
