Operation Thunder: NDPS Squad Busts ₹80 Lakh Ganja Haul; One Arrested, One Fugitive

In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Nagpur NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Squad conducted a major operation named “Operation Thunder” under the leadership of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal and supervision of Additional CP (Crime) and NDPS Squad In-charge.
On the night of October 20, 2025, between 9:45 PM and 11:50 PM, the NDPS team set up a strategic trap behind Umar Farooq Masjid in Shivshakti Nagar, Yashodharanagar, Nagpur. Their swift action led to the arrest of 38-year-old Mohammad Anwar Mohammad Ismail Ansari, a resident of Shivshakti Nagar. Authorities seized a massive quantity of 79.1 kilograms of ganja from his possession. The confiscated cannabis is estimated to be worth ₹19.77 lakh.
Along with the drugs, the police recovered a mobile phone, an Omni car, and an Activa moped, whose combined value is approximately ₹21.17 lakh. These assets are believed to have been used in the transportation and coordination of the drug trade.
While Ansari was apprehended, his accomplice, Ejaz Ansari from Gareeb Nawaz Nagar, Yashodharanagar, remains absconding. The police have launched an active manhunt to track him down and bring him to justice.A formal case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(2)(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act at the Yashodharanagar Police Station, reflecting the seriousness of the offense.
This seizure, valued at around ₹80 lakh including drugs and assets, marks another decisive blow by the NDPS Squad in its ongoing battle against the narcotics network plaguing Nagpur. The operation highlights the authorities’ commitment to dismantling drug trafficking rings and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
