Advance Alerts for High-Risk Zones
Travelers will receive early alerts on their mobile devices when approaching accident-prone stretches, fog-heavy areas, zones with stray animals, or sudden diversions. These alerts will be delivered via SMS, WhatsApp, and priority calls, allowing drivers ample time to adjust their speed and driving behavior before entering potentially dangerous sections of the highway.
Seamless Integration with NHAI’s Digital Platforms
The alert system will be phased in gradually and integrated with NHAI’s digital platforms, including the Rajmargyatra app and the 1033 emergency helpline. This integration is designed to build a responsive ecosystem where commuters can access accurate, real-time information effortlessly.
No Additional Infrastructure Required
The system leverages existing telecom towers, enabling quick deployment without the need for new roadside infrastructure. Available to all Jio users traveling on or near national highways, it taps into Jio’s extensive network and over 500 million subscribers, covering a large share of India’s highway traffic.
Leadership Endorsements
NHAI Chairman Shri Santosh Kumar Yadav remarked, “This initiative marks a crucial step in delivering timely and reliable information to commuters, empowering them to make safer driving decisions well in advance.” Reliance Jio President Jyotindra Thacker emphasized the use of telecom’s wide coverage to deliver impactful safety communications at scale.
Pilot Launch and Future Plans
The first phase will be piloted in select NHAI regional offices to fine-tune risk-zone mapping and alert criteria. The project will adhere to all regulatory and data privacy standards. NHAI also intends to collaborate with other telecom providers to expand the system’s reach, advancing the vision of safer, smarter highway travel for all users.
