New Corridor Connecting Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink and Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Be Ready Soon

Commuters on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL) and Mumbai-Pune Expressway can look forward to relief, as a ₹1,100 crore elevated corridor project is set to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has confirmed that the project will be completed by February 2027.

Key Features of the Elevated Corridor

The project includes two major elevated corridors:

  1. Chirle end of MTHL to Gavan Phata
  2. Palaspe Phata to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway

These corridors aim to ease traffic flow between major junctions and improve connectivity between Atal Setu and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, ensuring smoother travel for daily commuters.

Mumbai Exit on Mumbai-Pune Expressway Closed for Six Months

Starting February 11, the Mumbai exit at Panvel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will remain closed for six months due to ongoing construction at Kalamboli Circle. The closure impacts both light and heavy vehicles traveling toward PanvelMumbra, and JNPT.Traffic police have stated that the restriction will be in place 24/7 to ensure smooth construction progress and minimize congestion during the project.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

To accommodate the closure, the following routes have been suggested:

  • For vehicles heading to Panvel, Goa, and JNPT:
Traffic will be diverted at Konphata (9.6 km) onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle.
  • For those traveling from Pune to Mumbai and heading toward Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata:
Commuters should continue straight for 1.2 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, then take a right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover and follow the route via Roadpali and NH-48.

Official Statement

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, Tirupati Kakade, issued the restriction order under the Motor Vehicles Act and assured commuters of long-term benefits:
“Once the project is completed, the traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle will be significantly reduced.”
With improved connectivity and better traffic management, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway project promises smoother travel for all commuters by 2027.
