The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has undertaken the development of the Outer Ring Road to divert heavy vehicles from Nagpur’s city roads, aiming to ease congestion and improve connectivity. Spanning 64 km, most of the road is completed, with only a small section still under construction. Experts estimate the remaining work will be finished within a month, making the Outer Ring Road ready for use by the first week of April.
The road begins at Jamtha on Wardha Road and passes through key locations such as the Samruddhi Expressway junction, Katol Road, Koradi, and Fetri. The second phase of the project connects Fetri to Kapsi, providing a direct route for trucks traveling from Hyderabad to Jabalpur, while also allowing travelers from Betul to reach Bhandara and continue onwards to Kolkata. Additionally, the road links Amravati Road with Bhandara Road, enhancing accessibility across the region.Nagpur already has an Inner Ring Road developed by the PWD, but increasing traffic demands necessitated the construction of the larger Outer Ring Road by NHAI.
This new road will also enable vehicles from Hingna to connect directly to the Samruddhi Mahamarg, offering a faster and more efficient route for commuters and truck drivers alike.Currently, Nagpur is grappling with significant traffic congestion due to ongoing construction projects across the city. The movement of heavy vehicles through crowded roads and over bridges not designed for them has further aggravated the situation, causing chaos for daily commuters.
Once operational, the 64-km Outer Ring Road is expected to bring much-needed relief, allowing heavy vehicles to bypass the city entirely and offering residents smoother, less congested travel routes. This crucial infrastructure project is set to transform Nagpur’s connectivity and traffic management.
