To tackle persistent vehicular bottlenecks at its primary entrance, Nagpur Railway Station has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art underground parking facility at its West Gate. Designed to handle heavy daily commuter traffic, the expansive basement parking structure accommodates up to 1,890 vehicles simultaneously, featuring dedicated parking bays for around 1,600 two-wheelers and 290 four-wheelers.
To ensure structured vehicle movement, railway authorities have implemented a time-based slab pricing model. Under this structure, two-wheeler parking fees range from ₹10 to ₹35 depending on the duration, while four-wheeler charges vary between ₹50 and ₹100.
Engineered with passenger convenience at its core, the subterranean facility features separate, well-defined entry and exit ramps to ensure smooth traffic flow and eliminate congestion at ground level. Clear directional signage marks specific parking zones, while integrated elevator systems and staircases provide commuters with direct, seamless connectivity between the underground parking level and the main station concourse.
This parking infrastructure represents a crucial phase of the ambitious ₹487.77-crore station redevelopment master plan. To complement the new basement facility, railway officials are preparing additional traffic management solutions at the surface level. Upcoming additions include segregated traffic lanes for organized vehicular movement and a dedicated prepaid autorickshaw booth designed to eliminate haphazard passenger pick-ups and unauthorized roadside parking.
Although the comprehensive modernization of the entire railway terminal is targeted for final completion by March 2027, project authorities are strategically launching completed passenger-centric facilities in phases. Opening the West Gate underground parking lot early provides immediate relief to city commuters while setting the stage for a fully transformed, world-class transit hub.
