Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro Opens June 15: Major Traffic Relief for Pune IT Hub

Pune’s long-awaited Metro Line 3, connecting the Hinjewadi IT corridor to Shivajinagar, is officially set to begin operations on June 15, 2026. This 23-km elevated line is expected to provide massive relief to lakhs of daily commuters who have long struggled with the city’s most congested traffic stretches.

The project will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase, launching this June, will cover 12 stations starting from the Hinjewadi side, including key hubs like Megapolis, Quadron Business Park, Infosys Phase 2, and Balewadi Stadium. The remaining 11 stations, which will complete the direct link to Shivajinagar, are scheduled to become fully operational by October.

This metro line is a landmark project, serving as India’s first metro developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The venture, executed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited—a collaboration between the Tata Group and Siemens—will see operations managed by the global firm Keolis for the next decade.

Once the full corridor is linked in October, it will integrate seamlessly with Pune’s existing metro network. This connectivity will allow IT professionals and residents to travel across the city without relying on road transport, significantly cutting down travel time and fuel consumption.

While official ticket fares and train frequencies are still being finalized, authorities plan to release a detailed schedule closer to the launch date. For now, the successful completion of trial runs has paved the way for a transformation in how Pune moves, offering a reliable and modern alternative to the daily grind of city traffic.
