The construction of a new flyover connecting the RTO office to the university campus along Amravati Road is encountering difficulties due to the bridge landing being situated over a nullah near the RTO. Experts from the National Highway Division of PWD are considering consulting bridge specialists from VNIT to evaluate the situation.
Utilizing the existing bridge over the nullah as a landing point for the flyover poses significant risks, especially since several bridges spanning city nallahs have collapsed during heavy rainfall. Consequently, constructing a flyover ramp on the old bridge is deemed highly perilous.
To maintain traffic flow, experts suggest constructing new bridges on either side of the current one. Once these new structures are completed, the old bridge can be dismantled to facilitate the flyover ramp. However, demolishing and reconstructing the nullah bridge will necessitate road closures and diversions, potentially leading to severe traffic disruptions. Additionally, there is a waiting period for funds to acquire the land stretching from the RTO to the Bole petrol pump.
The 2.5 km-long flyover is nearing completion, with only the landings at Ravi Bhavan Square, Law College Square, and the RTO remaining unfinished. Sources indicate that if the issues related to the nullah bridge and land compensation are resolved, the flyover could be completed by December. Nevertheless, progress has currently stalled as the contracting team is on a break for Diwali celebrations.
