Bomb Threat on 11 Planes Sparks Panic at Pune Airport

A bomb threat posted on the microblogging site called X (formerly known as Twitter_ alleging that eleven planes departing from Pune Airport were rigged with explosives has sparked significant concern among travelers. The threat, received on October 22, coincided with multiple Akasa Airlines flights, including those connecting Goa to Pune, Delhi to Pune, and Pune to Kolkata. The disturbing message originated from the Twitter account “Lucasatuli,” claiming that “terrorists Lucas and Tulip” had planted bombs on the aircraft. An email was subsequently sent to the airline’s management warning of imminent explosions, prompting swift action from airport officials.

In response, Sarathi Sarbananda Pandey, a 34-year-old resident of Dattakripa Society in Lohgaon, filed a complaint at the Vimanal Police Station. The airport police promptly initiated an investigation and conducted thorough searches of the aircraft involved. Thankfully, no explosives were discovered.Assistant Police Inspector Saheba Pote of the Vimantal Police confirmed, “The threat was relayed to the Mumbai office of Akasa Airlines, which then notified us. After an exhaustive search of the planes, nothing suspicious was found. It seems to be a malicious rumor intended to incite panic.

Authorities have since filed a case against the Twitter account responsible for the threat, highlighting the creation of a fearful environment and endangerment of passengers and airline personnel. Police reported that there have been 85 incidents statewide related to bomb threats and attacks on security systems, reassuring passengers at Pune Airport to remain calm and confident in their safety. 

Earlier this week, Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu announced that the government intends to implement legislative measures to address the increasing number of bomb threats targeting airlines. This includes plans to place individuals responsible for such threats on a no-fly list. Stay tuned to know more about it and others only with us.
