1,300 Booth Level Officers in Nagpur Face Disciplinary Action Over Census Duty Refusal

Election authorities in Nagpur have issued show-cause notices to approximately 1,300 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) after they refused to participate in essential voter list revision and census-related duties. The district administration has warned that non-compliance could lead to immediate suspension and formal departmental inquiries.

Nagpur district, one of the largest in Maharashtra, manages a massive database of 46.41 lakh registered voters. To maintain this data, the administration appointed a total of 4,610 BLOs. However, nearly 28% of the appointed staff initially declined the assignment. While some officers have since joined in phases, a significant number remains defiant.

Key Details of the Dispute

The city has witnessed too much issues when it comes to responding the voters list by the BLOs. Despite the warning, they continue to act with carelessness. Thus the warning came from the admin groups. The election administration is taking a strict stance, citing that these duties are mandatory under administrative protocols.
